Wool is an amazing fibre that can be used many ways. Felting is the most ancient way humanity has used wool.
Felt is a non-woven fibre, meaning that the fibres in felt are going in all directions at the same time. Felt fabric is essentially contained chaos. The intoxication of felting is trying to control that chaos, and make all those fibres bend to your will. The technique is simple, but it never is the same twice. Using a natural fibre always leaves that element of uncertainty to every piece, like watercolour painting, or horseback riding. There seems to be another force at work. The challenge is ongoing and the possibilities endless!
With so many hard surfaces in our homes today, noises can cause unwanted echos and reverberations in your home. Wool is able to “catch” the sound waves and prevent them from bouncing off walls, hence preventing a room’s echo. Preventing this echo imporves the sound quality in a room. You may not even know that the quality is bad until you heart the difference.
Our panels are ready to hang, beautiful, and functional. A unique addition to any home, office, or workspace, each panel is ready to hang.
FELT SHEPHERD’S TOTES:
These totes are low-impact, low carbon totes that you can be proud to carry around. These totes are sustainabvle, rused, and repurposed. The wool is from our own ewe flock. This spring clip wool is ideal for felting, but not suitable for spinning or yarn making.
An upcycled coffee bean bag gives our totes their structural integrity. These bags are from local, organic, and Fair Trade roasteries. Often these bags go into landfill as they are poor quality and difficult to uses. They are ideal for our use though!
Finally, we go searching through thrift stores looking for leather items to use as straps. Many leather clothes look pretty dated today, but the leather is perfectly functional.
The result is a beautiful, functional tote that is straight from your own backyard!
These rustic and natural hip pouches are ideal for carrying around your most important items. Each pouch is hand cut, sewn, and riveted. Made only using 100% wool and vegetable or upcycled leather, Rivets are used to give each pouch maximum strength. Each one is completely unique. They come in a variety of sizes, colours, and designs. Custom pouches are available.
Each mat is approximately 24″ wide and 36-38″ long or half of a coffee bean bag. Like our Shepherd’s Totes, our felted mats are made using materials that are generally considered waste. Wool from our sheep creates the soft, and strong surface. All the wool used is either naturally coloured or hand dyed here on farm using natural or metal-free eco-dyes. Custom designs are available.
Drawing from decades of experience as an artist, illustrator, and desinger, Jennifer uses wool and thread to create unique art works. Inspired by history, heritage, and the world around her, Jennifer translates them using wool, thread, sometimes found materials, but always materials close to the land.
