Felted Wool Products

Wool is an amazing fibre that can be used many ways. Felting is the most ancient way humanity has used wool.

Felt is a non-woven fibre, meaning that the fibres in felt are going in all directions at the same time. Felt fabric is essentially contained chaos. The intoxication of felting is trying to control that chaos, and make all those fibres bend to your will. The technique is simple, but it never is the same twice. Using a natural fibre always leaves that element of uncertainty to every piece, like watercolour painting, or horseback riding. There seems to be another force at work. The challenge is ongoing and the possibilities endless!

Jennifer makes felt items using wool from the farm. Knowing which sheep the wool she is using came from is very special. Jennifer keeps excellent records of who produced what kind of fleece for her. This is part of her flock book so she can constantly improve the quality of the felting fleece on her sheep.

ACOUSTIC PAINTINGS:

JOSborn_calving_time2013With so many hard surfaces in our homes today, noises can cause unwanted echos and reverberations in your home. Wool is able to “catch” the sound waves and prevent them from bouncing off walls, hence preventing a room’s echo. Our panels are ready to hang, beautiful, and functional. A unique addition to your home or loft. Each panel is mounted and finished on the back with organic cotton. Our Acoustic Paintings are made for our own wool. Each image is custom made by felt artist and shepherdess Jennifer Osborn.

FELTED BAGS:

FELTED MATS:

20141030_172432These mats are felted onto upcycled organic coffee bean bags that were destined for the landfill. Each mat is approximately 24″ wide and 36-38″ long, it is half of a coffee bean bag. These give the mat more structure similar to a traditional rug and make use of a great resource. Wool from a variety of our sheep creates the soft, and strong surface. All the wool used is either naturally coloured or hand dyed by me using natural or metal-free eco-dyes for wool. A custom design can be made or I can lake one for you. As this is a handmade product and our sheep are multicoloured so the colours will vary slightly from the photos.

FELTED PET MATS:

These give the mat more structure similar to a traditional rug and make use of a great resource. Wool from a variety of our sheep creates the soft, and strong surface that a cat or dog loves to lie on. All the wool used is either naturally coloured or hand dyed by me using natural or metal-free eco-dyes for wool.
