It's Conference time!

We have been incredibly busy here getting ready for the one main social event on our yearly calendar. It is the time for the Guelph Organic Conference.

We have been busily being gathering supplies and information for our table at the GOC. After a few years of observation and exploration both Tim and I seem to have found our niches. We are really refining both our  role and our little farm this year. Here are a few of the exciting thing we have planned for this year!

Do you want a Food Forest? Become a member of a Food Forest CSA

At the End of September I am going to take a Forest Garden Design Intensive course in Nashville Tenessee. This course is taught by Dave Jacke. Dave Jacke co-authored the premier book on cold-climate forest gardening.

For the last few years Tim and I have been working hard to learn and create forest gardens here at All Sorts Acre. Forest gardening is a new type of gardening in cold climate areas. In many ways it is more challenging than in warmer climates. That is why I am going to learn from the man that wrote the books on the subject, literally.

As you can imagine these courses are expensive and rare. In an effort to raise money for the course and flight down to take Dave Jacke's course I have created a Food Forest CSA.

The shares range from $10 - $315 and offer a number of different items.

What a great time

Okay, so it was only a half hour workshop. But it was a lot of fun! Sunday we went to the Guelph Wellington Local Food Fest at Ignatius (see below blog).

The main reason for going was to do a workshop. Well, I was doing the workshop while Tim provided moral support in the audience.Presenting a brand new idea to a group of people is always nerve-wracking. I was really nervous about this as it is a personal project that is close to my heart.

We arrived at the Fest and saw a huge stage with microphones, speakers, and the presenters wearing headsets. I really hoped that I wasn't going to be up there as my little pad of paper wouldn't have been much good. Luckily that isn't where I was presenting. I was going to be tucked away in the back of the festival in a much smaller, and more intimate tent. I was very relieved when I saw that. I told Heather, the woman in charge of the tent I was there and proceeded to wait. Angelica from Transition Guelph gave a great presentation about what Transition Guelph does. Virgini, the Treemobile founder, also did a little presentation about the Treemobile.

Suddenly I was up in front of people and away. It went really well and there was a lot of interest in the $100 Food Forest. It felt really good to be able to tell people about permaculture and have them enjoy and understand it. Thanks to everyone that was there!

I can't wait to have the full length course! I am looking for a good weekend in the near future.
