ADOPT ONE OF THESE KITTENS HERE!
Over the last year we have been diligently feeding the feral cats that have arrived at our doorstep. Living in the country means that people come and dump their house pets thinking, that because there is a barn close by that their cats will suddenly revert to the wild and be able to fend for themselves. This is a scenerio that is rarely successful. These poor creatures, having been pampered in the house, used to a warm temperature and having not learned from their mother how to hunt properly, often end up at someones garbage bag and end up getting hit by a car, freezing to death, or having kittens. Of course they have manged to survive their sudden lifestyle change if they had kittens.
Last year one of these poor rejected house cats ended up in the neighbourhood. She had kittens under a neighbours porch. They people there fed her and managed to get a hold of two of the kitten and found them homes. The mother cat took the remaining two kittens and moved into the basement of our garage for the winter. We fed her and she managed to raise the remaining two kittens without a problem, one male, one female. The male kitten disappeared but the female kitten stuck around. Mum moved across the street heavy with a new litter of kittens and the female kitten stayed. we fed her over the winter and in early spring she became pregnant as well. We fed her and she had two kittens in this past spring. She took good care of them and slowly, over the summer we managed to socialize the kitten and bring them in. The male was adopted but the female is still here. her name is now Bright Eyes and she has become a lovable young cat.
The Mum cat, now called Mumsie, became pregnant again and had a litter of five kitten this autumn. We continued feeding and managed to befriend them enough to bring them into the house. So, we now have a load of cats and they are all just adorable.
