This has been a good week for eggs. Our older hens seem to have finished molting, this year's hens are finally laying, and we have ten guest ISA brown hens who are also contributing. Thank you Rohan and Khosrow for bringing us your peri-urban hens. Our newest additions spent their summer as part of a peri-urban farm jointly run by Backyard Bounty, Futurewatch and the Salvation Army. They have come to winter here and add to our egg output.

The upshot of all this is that the "SOLD OUT" sign is finally down and we're open for business! Come and get your free range All Sorts eggs!

The chickens have been slowly and gradually replacing their feathers, and preparing themselves for the colder weather to come in a process called molting.  As I collected eggs this evening, I saw a couple of clues - feathers in the chicken run looking like snow on the ground, and only ten eggs today, down from the nearly two dozen a day we have been getting for most of the summer. If you've come by lately looking for eggs, we have been perpetually out. The good news is the hens born this year are starting to lay, so  soon enough we'll be able to take down the "sold out" sign.

Thank you everyone who made the trek out to our place for Saturday's Rural Romp. It's always a treat to talk to like minded people who support our local food system. I would particularly like to thank the volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly. I could not have done this without you. Thanks David for your time, I'm glad that we were able to finally connect and talk shop...and thank you Stacey for hanging in for the whole day,  I couldn't have done this without you!
